2011 Keynote Address:
Stepping the Game Up on Process Safety... Moving from Compliance to Commitment
"I will share the learnings that I have had from various leadership roles re what is required to engage the plant employees on our journey to Goal Zero. We want to run our plants with no injuries, no process safety events, no product quality events, and no reliability events. Most of the efforts to date have been targeted toward compliance driven efforts and stronger management systems. The people element of this equation is getting left behind and will not allow us to achieve Goal Zero performance if not addressed. I will share what we are doing at Lyondellbasell Houston Refinery to re-connect with our team, get focused on Everyday Excellence with respect to how we run the plant, and ultimately build accountability and ownership for results at the worker level through respect and commitment."
